How to Install The Rotary Joint?

GB Type High Pressure Rotary Joint

Use left-hand when turning clockwise Use right-hand when turning counterclockwise

Preparations and precautions before installation

Check whether the selected rotary joint type, specifications and models are correct, and whether the connection parts with the machine and pipeline (pipe section) used for assembly are missing.

When the hollow shaft of the rotary joint is threaded, check whether the rotation direction of the thread is opposite to that of the rotating body and whether the dimensions are the same.

Installation sequence

The rotary joint should be installed correctly according to the requirements of the installation and operation manual, otherwise its sealing performance and life will not be fully exerted.

1. Assembly and installation of one-way rotary joint and matching equipment

When the hollow shaft is connected with the matching rotating body by thread, the lead is generally coated with white lead oil or a soft film, and the spindle is clamped with a tool (generally designed with a wrench jaw plane) to align the rotating body thread. Screw in the center of the coupling hole until it tightens.

When the hollow shaft is connected to the rotating body with a flange, a thick and uniform washer should be added to the end of the hollow shaft protruding from the flange, and then the mating part and the screw hole of the end of the rotating body should be fixed with bolts. When tightening the bolt, the angle should be set, and finally tightened, the torque should be the same.

2. For the two-way inner tube fixed rotary joint, the connection between the outer tube and the matching rotary body is the same as the one-way rotary joint. The difference is the installation of the inner tube.

The connection method of the inner tube and the end cap of the rotary joint generally adopts taper pipe thread and pipe thread connection. Its connection is opposite to the rotation direction of the rotating body equipped with the same, and the rotation direction of the outer pipe is screwed or connected with the rotating body. When the outer tube is connected by a flange, after the inner tube and the end cover are screwed, sometimes the end of the inner tube is locked in the end cover with a nut.

During installation, the inner tube is aligned from the end hole of the outer tube inward to the screw hole of the end cap of the rotary joint, and then the inner tube is fed into the inner cavity of the rotating body. If the siphon type is used, the siphon bend should be adjusted. The mouth of the head pipe is downward, and then the outer pipe is fixedly connected with the matching rotating body.

3. Two-way inner tube rotary joint

The connection and assembly of the outer tube and the matching rotating body is the same as the one-way rotary joint, the difference is the installation and assembly of the inner tube.

Before installing the outer tube, first assemble the inner tube with the matching rotating body. The inner tube of this structure is generally connected to the rotating body with a screw, and its rotation direction is opposite to that of the rotating body.

Remove the end cap of the rotary joint. When packing is sealed between the inner and outer pipes, the packing gland and the stop pin (some rotary joints are designed with this part) should be removed, and the packing may be loosened or removed in different situations. Packing, then the inner tube is aligned with the center of the outer tube, and the outer tube is fixedly connected with the matching rotating body. Then according to the original disassembly sequence, the inner tube packing gland and end cap are assembled in reverse.

4. Before connecting with pipelines and fittings that are used for conveying fluids, do the following:

Move the rotary joint housing with your hand or tool to check if it can rotate flexibly, otherwise you need to find the reason and adjust.

When equipped with ball bearings and designed with grease adding and draining holes, check whether the fueling hole is upward, the draining hole is down, and check whether the through oil cup is damaged or blocked during transportation.

Check and adjust whether the position of the fluid inlet or outlet pipe corresponds to the corresponding channel of the rotary joint and meets the design requirements.

Assemble the rotation-stop and load-bearing lifting structural parts of the rotary joint, and adjust the concentricity of the shell and the hollow shaft to be the same.

5. Assemble and connect metal flexible hoses (or other flexible hoses) and other related pipe fittings according to the installation and operation instructions of the rotary joint, and connect and fix them with the pipelines that transport fluid.

Can A Ball Valve Be Used As A Control Valve?

Fully welded pipe line ball valve

If you have basic valve knowledge, you are probably familiar with ball valves – one of the most common types of valves available today. A ball valve is typically a quarter-turn valve with a perforated ball in the middle to control flow. These valves are known for being durable with excellent shutoff, but don't always offer very precise control. Let's talk about when it's okay to use a ball valve as a control valve.

Even though ball valves aren't the best device to control flow, they are still commonly used because of their cost effectiveness. You can get away with using a ball valve in an application that doesn't require precise adjustability and control. For example, a ball valve should have no problem keeping a large tank filled at a certain level within a few inches.

As with any equipment, you will need to take the complete process conditions into consideration before selecting your valve. This includes the product or material, size of piping, flow rate, etc. If you are trying to control an expensive material that you are worried about wasting, you might not want to rely on a ball valve.

Ball valves aren't very precise because their adjustment isn't proportionate to the large amount of flow that the open hole provides. There is also ‘slop' or ‘play' in between the stem and ball that hinders precise control. Lastly, the amount of torque required to adjust ball valves doesn't allow for fine adjustment near the “closed” and “open” position.

Standard Steel Ball valves

When you need precise control over your application, a globe valve will be more accurate than a ball valve. Globe valves are considered the industry standard for control valves because they are good at regulating flow, whereas ball valves are better for on/off control without pressure drop.

If you must use a ball valve to control your process, you might want to consider different types of ball valves depending on your application. A trunnion or v-port ball valve will perform better and allow for more accurate adjustability in certain scenarios.

Trunnion ball valves have an additional mechanical anchoring of the ball at the top and bottom. They use a splined or keyed stem connection that eliminates any play between the ball and stem. V-port ball valves have a ‘V' shaped ball instead of the standard round hole. This allows for more control because of the tapered opening, allowing for more linear flow.

Know About Swivel Joint

 Swivel Joints

What is a Swivel Joint?

Swivel joints, also known as rotary unions are made use of in applications where a continuous transmission of fluids from a stationary resource to a revolving resource is called for without cross-contamination or leak. Normal applications use swivel joints to allow for 360-degree rotation while maintaining hoses from obtaining tangles as elements transform. In return, mechanical stress and anxieties that would result from hose pipe turning, flexing, as well as extending can be alleviated.

Swivel joints are crafted to operate at a variety of pressure and also temperature levels for a variety of conditions as well as settings. Based upon market needs, the swivel joint can be designed to have numerous flows as well as can transfer different sorts of liquid all at once at numerous rotational rates. Generally, as the number of passages increases, the size boosts, and the rate will certainly be reduced.

The Primary Components of a Rotary Joint

Body/Housing

The body of the rotary joints contains the fluid, holds pressure, and in some cases allows for hose connections. Also, it acts as torque restraint.

Shaft/Nipple/Rotor

The nipple is the primary connection to the machine. Nipple connection options include tapered thread, straight thread, or flanged.

Guide

Bearing bushings or guides transmit rotational force to keep the rotary joint aligned.

Seal

The seal is the main wearing part of a rotary joint. During operation, the seal experiences internal loading forces from fluid pressure, as well as friction from contact with the rotating nipple and the stationary housing. Factors related to the application, such as machine speed, temperature, and fluid effect seal life.

Assembly Plate

The assembly plate fits between the rotary joint head and body to secure internal parts when the head is removed. As assembly plate is typically optional.

What is the difference between a rotary swivel, rotary joint, and a multi-passage union?

Rotary joints, unions, and rotary swivels are used in applications with only one media. When more than one media is used simultaneously, a multi-passage rotary union is used. Multi-passage rotary unions have off-center passages and can be used in higher pressure applications. Rotary swivels are used when bidirectional rotation is required. Rotary joints typically have pressure-type seals, while rotary unions use flat-face seals and ball bearings for support.

Equipment Performance

GHS/GHSA swivel joint

Proper equipment, installation, and maintenance are key for optimal performance of any type of union whether it be a rotary swivel, rotary joint, or multi-passage union. Equipment that fails, typically fail for one of the following reasons:

• Piping strains

• Misalignment

• Lack of attention

• Improperly repaired

• Improperly applied

• Inadequate torque restraints

• Non-OEM parts

As manufacturers design new machines to operate at higher speeds, higher temperatures, increased efficiency, and more demanding applications, consideration must be given to the equipment to ensure it is capable of performing at these operating conditions.

How Does a Swivel Joint Work?

Swivel Joints come in various shapes and sizes based upon the application and the environment where it goes through. While style consideration needs to be provided to outside elements, all the swivel joints have 2 primary components: a shaft as well as real estate.

The idea behind a swivel allows the shaft to rotate while the real estate remains fixed-ready. The shaft has actually pierced holes of varying size and also depth beginning with its leading surface area. Variable opening midsts, as well as markings, define the circulation path of fluid within the swivel. Via inner design, the fluid is performed the shaft right into and also out of the swivel joint.

The real estate system includes machined flow as well as grooves to assist in liquid transfer within the swivel and also protect against cross leakages. Phoned number markings are found on the real estate outer diameter surface area and also the same can be discovered on the leading surface area of the shaft.

These numbers specify where an individual would anticipate the fluid to move in/out in between shafts as well as real estate via the machined inner passages. A collection of very carefully selected inner elements are fitted between the shaft as well as real estate at specified locations. These include seals, breaks rings, O rings, wearings, tiny bearings in specific applications.

The choice of interior parts is of vital importance while designing a swivel joint as severe interest needs to be given to the tolerances as well as the inner layout of the real estate grooves. Failing to comply with the advised layout and also machining requirements leads to leaking elements.

The flow of power, as well as signals, are sometimes required for particular applications and industries. Slide rings can be incorporated with the swivel joint via passing electrical cable televisions within the hollow inner size of the shaft.

Exactly How to Select a Swivel Joint?

In contrast to various other rotary parts in the exact same industries, a swivel joint mostly endures interior loads while functional. This is a direct outcome of pressurized fluid flowing within its interior components. To pick an appropriate swivel joint, multiple influencing factors should be thought about.

The most influencing element on a swivel joint is the inner securing option between the shaft and also housing. Really precise tolerances have to be preserved during the machining phase to create the required grooves for seals as well as inner elements to be fit.
